Our Story

Aderhold Funeral Home has been serving the West area community for many years. We’re thankful to be an important part of this community and will continue our longstanding legacy of helping families honor their loved ones.

    West Furniture and Undertakers was originally located in the building currently occupied by West Furniture and Mynar’s Bar. H.V. Aderhold was a partner of the group ownership. He and his son, Kyle, maintained ownership and management of the funeral home and changed the name to Aderhold in the early 1900s.


  • 1953

    Harry Moore bought the funeral home and operated the business under the name Aderhold-Moore Funeral Home.


  • 1963

    Alvin and Jonnie Payne purchased the funeral home and the name was reverted back to Aderhold Funeral Home.


  • 1972

    Major remodeling and expansion of the building occurred and a grand re-opening was held.


  • 1983

    Robert Payne came on board as an employee and then earned his Funeral Director and Embalmer’s licenses in 1985. He went on to become co-owner.


  • 1991

    Larry Payne came on board as an employee and then earned his Funeral Director’s license in 2009. He also went on to become co-owner.


  • 1994

    Aderhold Funeral Home moved to the current location on South Reagan Street.


  • 1996

    Alvin R. Payne passed away on March 6 while conducting the services for two local high school students who lost their lives in an automobile accident. The Payne family then hired Janice Kaluza as an employee deeming her a perfect fit for the business. Janice earned her Funeral Director’s license in 2000.


  • 2008

    Aderhold Funeral Home bought Kotch Funeral Home when Joseph H Kotch, Jr. decided to retire. Although his building was not a part of the purchase, the remaining assets, including all Pre-Need Contracts were transferred to Aderhold at that time. This year Aderhold Funeral Home was elected West Business of the Year by the West Chamber of Commerce.


  • 2011

    Former owner, Al Payne, was acknowledged by the West Ministirial Alliance as the first recipient of the Bridge Builder Award in honor of his leadership skills and ability to unite the community. The award is now presented annually to a notable member of the community of West.


  • 2014

    Aderhold Funeral Home was elected Texas Family Business of the Year – Small Family Business Award by the Baylor University Institute for Family Business.


  • 2015

    Larry Payne was presented the Runner-Up Award for Funeral Director of the Year by The National Funeral Director’s Association.


    2016

    Jonnie E. Payne, part owner of Aderhold Funeral Home, passed away on January 14. She left behind a family legacy that she and Al began 53 years ago in the city of West.


  • 2018

    Tim Payne and Valerie Payne came on board as employees, and later that year co-owners. Their father, Larry W. Payne passed away on June 17 after a long battle with cancer. Tim and Valerie became the third generation of Payne family owners. Tim earned his Funeral Director’s license in 2019.

     



     

  • 2024

    Chris Eubank was hired on as a Funeral Director. He has been a long-time friend of the Payne family, offering services as an employee in his high school years. We are happy to have Chris on board with us.
