Life Legacy


Linda Carol Lander, age 57, of West, passed away early Friday morning, September 16, 2011 at Providence Health Center in Waco.

A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 2:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Martin’s Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday at Aderhold Funeral Home.

Mrs. Lander was born October 29, 1953 in Waco, to the late Basil S. and Emma C. (Berger) Housewright, Sr. She attended schools in West and graduated from West High School in 1972. On June 22, 1973 she was united in marriage to Elwood W. “Woody” Lander in Waco. Linda retired from the Waco Veterans Administration Regional Office after 33 years of service in January of 2009, as a Decision Review Officer. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. Linda enjoyed scrapbooking, shopping, decorating for holidays, and she especially loved spending time with her sons and grandchildren.

Survivors include her beloved husband of 38 years, Elwood “Woody” Lander of West; two sons, Kevin Lander and wife Stephanie and B.J. Lander and wife Michele, all of Shady Shores; a brother, Basil S. Housewright Jr. and wife Donna of Sugarland; two sisters, Karen Mazanec and husband Michael of Cross Plains and Cindy Zapalac and husband Mark of Tours; sisters-in-law, Virginia Odle of Bastrop and LaVerne Kapczynski and husband Roman of Atlanta, GA; four grandchildren, Brett, Raegan, Emma, and Faith Lander; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers are Kevin Lander, B. J. Lander, Brandon Mazanec, Macon Mazanec, Jeff Zapalac, Colin Walker, Ricky Loggins, and A.J. Zimmerhanzel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church Building Fund or the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.
